Milinda Brown
Partner
Milinda Brown primarily represents both Plaintiffs and Defendants in a variety of employee and business-related matters, including shareholder disputes, disputes arising from the ownership of closely held companies, and contract disputes. Growing up, Milinda was involved in her family-owned business in Augusta, Georgia, and her involvement in her family business led to her passion for helping individuals and businesses navigate business issues.
She also has a great passion for fighting for the rights of individuals and employees in a variety of situations, including civil rights violations, sexual harassment, and unlawful discrimination and retaliation.
Milinda has vast trial experience in both state and federal courts. She successfully represented and defended a doctor in a partnership dispute in a week-long jury trial. The jury awarded her client the maximum amount of damages allowed under the contract and denied all claims against their client. Read case details here. Recently, Milinda successfully tried a case for breach of contract arising from an employee’s separation agreement in Fulton Superior Court, and the jury sided in favor of her client and awarded $400,661 in damages. Read case details here.
Milinda also has achieved considerable appellate success, and recently, Milinda twice defended an appeal of a preliminary injunction awarded on behalf of her clients (three defamation attorneys) enforcing a non-disparagement provision against a former Georgia attorney. The Georgia Supreme Court and Georgia Court of Appeals both upheld the injunction given to the attorney clients.
Before practicing business and employment law, Milinda was selected as an Honors Fellow for the Georgia Attorney General’s Office. During her time as an Assistant Attorney General, Milinda defended state employees in civil rights actions, including claims under The Civil Rights Act (42 U.S.C. §1983), the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Rehabilitation Act. Milinda also represented Georgia entities, departments, and authorities in state court actions brought pursuant to the Georgia Torts Claim Act.
Milinda was most recently named the 2024 Young Attorney of the Year at the Southeastern Legal Awards. Milinda is a graduate of the 2019 Georgia Young Lawyers Division’s Leadership Academy, and currently, Milinda serves as the professionalism and ethics chair for the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia.
Milinda received her J.D. magna cum laude from Mercer Law School where she was a member of the school’s national championship-winning corporate law moot court team and was a member of the Mercer Law Review. Milinda was inducted into the Order of Barristers and received the Ruth T. West Award for Advocacy and Leadership. Milinda is admitted to practice before all Georgia state courts, the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Georgia, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Outside of work, Milinda enjoys road biking and attending dog-friendly events with her husband and three dogs, and each fall, she enjoys cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs.
